Go kayaking from The Quarry
We have a fleet of yellow Venture Flex 11 kayaks, which are stable and have a large cockpit for easy access.
1-Hour Hire: £20 for one kayak, £30 for two!
2-Hour Hire: £30 for one kayak, £45 for two!
We also offer ‘Kayak Paddle Ball’ which you can do without any extra cost when you hire 2 or more kayaks. We also organise ‘Kayak Paddle Ball’ contests during the summer. Soon more about this fun experience on our website!
After a short safety brief, we will help you onto the water and you can paddle off upstream into the countryside.
This experience is suitable for beginners and, with a bit of instruction from our staff, you will get the hang of it in no time!
Book NowWhat do I need to bring?
Expect to get a little bit wet! We provide buoyancy aids for you to wear over your clothes, but apart from that, please wear clothing you are happy to get splashed with water.
We recommend bringing a change of clothes for afterwards.
It’s not that we expect that you’re going to fall in, it’s just that when kayaking, the action of lifting the blade of the paddle out of the water and above your shoulder causes water to drip down into your lap and around your wrists.
Also, try not to wear shoes that are too bulky—especially if you have big feet—as it will be uncomfortable to fit them inside the kayak.
Book NowHow far can we go?
Meet us at our stand in The Quarry in Shrewsbury town centre (by the Porthill footbridge) and we will get you kitted up and on the water. You’ve then got up to two hours to paddle as far as you can or want to! There is no set point at which you must turn around. What we advise is for you to paddle upstream for two-thirds of your time on the water and then come back downstream in the last third.
In the spring you might spot lambs further upstream in one of the fields and in the summer you will probably spot cows lounging on one of the river beaches!
Age restrictions
This activity is suitable for ages 13 and above. Under-18s must be supervised on the water by an adult. There must always be a minimum of two people on the water.
If you would like to hire a combination of kayaks and canoes (and maybe even paddleboards too!), this is possible. It is probably easier to send us an email but this can also be done through our website – just make sure you choose the same time slot for each option!
