Start: Crew Green (by the Melverley/Crew Green bridge)
Finish: Montford Bridge (our base, Wingfield Arms)
Distance: 10 miles / 16 km (downstream)
Time on water: 3–5 hrs depending on flow and stops
Water grade: Grade I, gentle current; a few shallow spots in low water.
Waypoints & highlights:
- Vyrnwy–Severn confluence: You’ll launch from the confluence of the River Severn & River Vyrnwy
- Crew Green launch: rural lay by access near the bridge; we’ll brief and launch you here.
- Breidden Hills & Rodney’s Pillar views: to your right (west) as the river bends through farmland; classic Shropshire/Wales skyline.
- Optional pubs stop: The Royal Hill (approx. 4km from the start): a traditional riverside pub (landing can be steep — only if conditions/levels allow).
- Historic finish under Montford Bridge: Telford’s 1790–92 triple arch sandstone bridge; pull out at our access near Wingfield.

Wonderful day with my siblings. Lovely route on the Severn to Shrewsbury. Beautiful. Peaceful. Very tiring but totally worth it. Wish we took a picnic. Some lovely places to stop and rest. Highly recommend
