Route at a glance
Start & finish: The Quarry Park, Shrewsbury (bottom of Porthill)
Time on water: We offer 1, 2 and 3-hour canoe hire
Water grade: Grade I, gentle current; a few shallow spots in low water.
Highlights:
- The Quarry Park and The Dingle: If you head downstream, you will canoe past Shrewsbury’s historic 29-acre parkland. With views of The Dingle, a beautifully landscaped sunken garden designed by Percy Thrower.
- Welsh Bridge: One of Shrewsbury’s historic river crossings, linking Frankwell to the town centre and forming a part of the scenic riverside route.
- English Bridge: Another beautiful, old stone arch bridge. Originally completed in 1774 and later rebuilt in 1925 using its original masonry.
- Wildlife along the riverbanks: Head out of Shrewsbury town centre into the beautiful Shropshire countryside, where you’re more likely to spot local wildlife. In spring, keep an eye out for lambs in the riverside fields, and in the summer months, you might spot cows relaxing on the riverbanks or even on the sandy river beaches.

Thoroughly enjoyed our little trip down the river. We did the hour and that was just enough for us. Was a brilliant evening. Thank you very much
We decided to book this very last minute whilst on honeymoon in Shropshire. We are so glad we did! It was very easy to book a time slot online, and good value for money to get 2 hours on the water. The leader made us feel at ease and ensured we had fun with no stress or worry. We got in the water and were able to explore up and down stream of Shrewsbury which was beautiful. We loved it! Thank you!
Excellent outfit with great boats and brilliant staff. Our trip was expertly organised, which made it fun and easy. The staff are relaxed and fun and made sure that we had fun too!
We also watched part of a paddle boarding group lesson/trip they were doing which looked amazing. Next time!
I would definitely recommend this fabulous experience.
