Starting upstream means you’ll enjoy a calm, steady paddle through unspoilt surroundings before finishing at Montford Bridge.

12 miles: Montford Bridge to the Quarry Park, Shrewsbury

Our most popular day trip is the 12‑mile paddle from Montford Bridge to The Quarry Park in Shrewsbury, where you’ll drift downstream through beautiful Shropshire countryside and finish right in the heart of the town. The route offers a mix of peaceful rural stretches and iconic riverside scenery as you approach Shrewsbury. This trip is well‑established as a favourite among paddlers as a relaxing way to enjoy the River Severn.

Along the way, paddlers often spot swans, herons, kingfishers and even the occasional otter! Your journey ends in The Quarry, Shrewsbury’s 29‑acre parkland set within the river loop, offering a picturesque finish to your day on the water.

Bringing the kids?

Canoe Hire:
Our canoe river trips are open to adventurers aged 10 and older. Children aged 10 and above are welcome to join the journey as long as they’re accompanied by a responsible adult (18+). The child will sit at the front of the canoe if there are 2 people, or in the middle seat if there are 3 participants.

Kayak Hire:

Children aged 13 and above are welcome to join the kayak river day trip, as long as they’re accompanied by a responsible adult (18+). The child will have their own kayak, as long as an adult (18+) is in a kayak or canoe alongside them.

And yes, your four-legged friends are more than welcome too! We love dogs and are happy for them to join you on the trip at no extra cost. (Dogs welcome on canoes — We don’t provide dog buoyancy aids)

Please note: For safety and balance, you can not solo paddle. You must have a minimum of 2 people in a canoe or 2 kayaks.

This is a Grade I touring section, but the River Severn can rise quickly after rain. We monitor Environment Agency gauges at Crew Green and Montford Bridge to ensure activities are safe to run.

Fabulous day out travelling down the river Severn. Well organised, collected on time and given instructions. Although quite a long way, the river helped take us along as we didn't have to paddle the whole time. Would definitely do it again.

Fab time canoeing from Montford Bridge to Shrewsbury

Booked the 1/2 day canoe trip for adult and 13 year old, picked up promptly from Frankwell for 10 min ride to Montford Bridge. Friendly and good short instruction and the off you go. We took about 5 hours in total, very peaceful trip passing swans, geese, ducks and ducklings, lots of buzzards and heron. Excellent value for money. Highly recommend!
