Canoe hire from The Quarry, Shrewsbury's town centre park. £25 for 1 hour or £40 per canoe for 2 hours or £50 for 3 hours. Meet us in The Quarry at the foot of the Porthill Bridge and explore the River Severn as it loops around the town.

The Hire A Canoe Montford Bridge to The Quarry experience is a great day trip for beginners, families, and couples. You will explore 12 miles of the River Severn and potentially spot some cool wildlife, such as Kingfishers, Swans and maybe even some Otters!
What to expect
Your journey starts when one of our friendly team members meets you at Frankwell Car Park in Shrewsbury, where you’ll spot our bright yellow minibus — hard to miss! From there, we’ll drive you to our riverside hire center at Montford Bridge, the launch point for your day on the water.
Once at the center, we’ll get you kitted out with everything you need for a safe and enjoyable trip. You’ll receive your buoyancy aid, paddle, and any other essential equipment — all included in the price of your hire. We’ll introduce you to your canoe or kayak, walk you through the planned route, and deliver a safety briefing, ensuring you feel confident and prepared before setting off.
Then it’s time to hit the river and let the adventure begin!
Bringing the kids?
Canoe Hire:
Our canoe river trips are open to adventurers aged 10 and older. Children aged 10 and above are welcome to join the journey as long as they’re accompanied by a responsible adult (18+). The child will sit at the front of the canoe if there are 2 of people, or in the middle seat if there will be 3 participants.
Kayak Hire:
Children aged 13 and above are welcome to join the kayak river day trip, as long as they’re accompanied by a responsible adult (18+). The child will have their own kayak, as long as an adult (18+) is in a kayak or canoe alongside them.
And yes, your four-legged friends are more than welcome too! We love dogs and are happy for them to join you on the trip at no extra cost.
Please note: For safety and balance, you can not solo paddle. You must have 2 people minimum in a canoe or 2 kayaks.

We have graded all of the routes and trips we offer across our various locations on a scale of 1 to 5 (from easy to moderately difficult).
This trip is suitable for beginners and is rated 2/5 because you will be required to negotiate a section of tree-lined, faster-moving water.
Prior kayaking and canoeing experience is not required. You will be given a safety brief and made aware of what to look out for along the route.
If you are a confident swimmer, a generally competent person when it comes to learning new things and good at following instructions, then you will manage just fine!

Fabulous day out travelling down the river Severn. Well organised, collected on time and given instructions. Although quite a long way, the river helped take us along as we didn't have to paddle the whole time. Would definitely do it again.
Such a great experience! From being picked up at frankwell carpark to being fitted into the correct safety vests, got a waterproof pouch for my mobile whilst there too. I hired a kayak, my friends hire a canoe and we had such a lovely afternoon, paddling our way along the river. Everything felt safe and secure, with some helpful guidance on navigation and ideas for places to stop for our picnic which was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to go back again and try stand up paddle boards next time!
A lovely peaceful trip from Montford Bridge to Shrewsbury. Great way to introduce our 8 year old granddaughter to canoeing down a river.
Booked the 1/2 day canoe trip for adult and 13 year old, picked up promptly from Frankwell for 10 min ride to Montford Bridge. Friendly and good short instruction and the off you go. We took about 5 hours in total, very peaceful trip passing swans, geese, ducks and ducklings, lots of buzzards and heron. Excellent value for money. Highly recommend!
