You don’t need to bring anything along with you except a good sense of adventure and yourself. We suggest you bring some comfortable clothing and trainers.
The Hire a Canoe evening paddle is designed to help you reset, whether you’re looking to unwind, move your body, or just spend time outside. With our 1-hour canoe hire, you get gentle exercise and a great dose of serotonin! Expect to pass under historic bridges, float past riverside trees and meadows, and maybe spot some local wildlife.
Our evening canoe hire allows you to get a taste of canoeing along the River Severn without committing to our river day trips! It also gives you the chance to meet like-minded people.
What to expect?
- Arrive at our Quarry Park launch point: Arrive at the launch site 15 minutes early to check in with our team. We’ll get you signed in, fitted with a life jacket, and matched with your canoe.
- Safety Briefing: Before we hit the water, we’ll run through a short safety briefing and basic paddling techniques. No prior experience is needed; the route is beginner-friendly
- Getting out on the water: After the safety briefing, we will help you get into your canoe, and from then on, you have free rein to explore the River Severn.
- Relaxing Evening Paddle: Enjoy a peaceful hour paddle as the day winds down. Expect scenic views, calm water, and good company. We recommend you canoe upstream for 2/3s of the hour and then float back downstream with the current.
Good to know
Children are welcome to join in on our evening paddle. The minimum age is 6 years old and all children must have an adult in their canoe with them. This is not a guided event, so you will be able to paddle wherever you would like to. We advise paddling upstream for 2/3s of the time and then floating back downstream with the current.
Our evening paddle is great for families, couples or colleagues who want something different to do with their Thursday evening.

Meet us in Shrewsbury, we will drive you upstream to Montford Bridge then you can canoe 12 miles downstream through the beautiful Shropshire countryside surrounded by woodland and a stunning array of wildlife
Canoe hire from The Quarry, Shrewsbury's town centre park. £25 for 1 hour or £40 per canoe for 2 hours or £50 for 3 hours. Meet us in The Quarry at the foot of the Porthill Bridge and explore the River Severn as it loops around the town.
